DAYTONA BEACH -- Trevor Bayne won the Daytona 500 Sunday.
It was quite a birthday gift for the racer who turned 20 Saturday.
Bayne held off Carl Edwards by 0.118 seconds to become the youngest winner in Daytona 500 history.
Racing fans enjoy action outside the Speedway
Hundreds of thousands of fans pack into Daytona Beach for the Daytona 500.
Many of them never even make it inside the Speedway, preferring to watch the race from a huge block party on International Speedway Boulevard.
Just about every venue along International Speedway Boulevard has drinking and monitors -- NASCAR's version of tailgating.
While many head into the Speedway as the clock ticks down to the green flag, others linger and watch on big screens.
"Naw, we're just hanging out,” said Clay Belk. “It's a big party out here, why not."
"I've been to a bunch of them. This time I decided to hang out here with the crowd and watch it from out here," said Jeff Bell.
Mike Scroggins had tickets to the Great American Race, but with former military friends in town, he decided his veteran friends should enjoy what he has in past years.
"I've given the tickets to those guys, but I'm here enjoying the time," Scroggins said.
Others hold out for ticket scalpers to offer a better deal before making the trek across the street.
Then there are some who dress up, or down, for the super bowl of racing, but find deals are better outside the Speedway.
