The Wisconsin Department of Transportation along with the State Patrol is advising motorists to not travel unless absolutely necessary as evening.
Travel from southern Wisconsin into the central third of the state will be particularly hazardous and should be avoided until Monday afternoon.
Road conditions have deteriorated throughout the day and are expected to more rapidly degrade through the overnight hours. Numerous crashes and slide-ins have been reported on the interstate system. While plows are out, most state highways are reported to be in hazardous driving conditions.
Heavy snow, freezing rain, sleet, and ice are expected to continue into Monday. Ice is likely to accumulate in extreme southern Wisconsin near the Illinois border, while nearly a foot of heavy snow will create hazardous conditions across the central third of the state.
Motorists who must travel are advised to monitor weather and road conditions before leaving. To check on the latest winter road conditions, call 5-1-1 or view this information on the Web at 511wi.gov. Dial 911 only for emergency situations
